Jimmy Cub is not much of a night hawk but last night he was out and says it was a perfectly grand night, snappy and the full moon bathing the entire world in silver light.

Jimmy Cub says that it does a feller good to look at such a picture and then get out in this sun and bake for a few hours. Stubby Cottontail managed to horn in on the picture much to Bobby’s disgust.

He said no when Grace Mullen, the festival’s founder and driving force for decades, asked him in 1924, so Gage Christopher led the Redlands Bowl’s first community sings.īy 1925, Kirchhofer said yes, and he not only led the singing but began two longtime Redlands Bowl traditions - introducing people in the audience from out of town who were at the Bowl for the first time and calling children to the stage for the Pledge of Allegiance and national anthem. The first program of the first Redlands Bowl Summer Music Festival was a community sing, held July 2, 1924, but Kirchhofer was not leading the singing. For three decades, he led the community sings that were part of the Redlands Bowl Summer Music Festival, from 1925, the festival’s second summer, until Wilbur Schowalter took over leading the sings in 1955. 12, 1921, might have been the first time Hugo Kirchhofer led Redlanders in singing but it was certainly not the last. The Brookside Avenue building is now being renovated to house the Museum of Redlands. Arthur was known as Jimmy Cub because of his daily weather feature illustrated with a cartoon of a bear cub. In this photo that ran July 6, 1956, in the Redlands Daily Facts, reporter Cecil Arthur looks through a bound volume of the newspaper in what was then the new Daily Facts building on Brookside Avenue. The mercury dropped to 32 at the weather station and a couple of degrees lower than that in some of the orchards it is said but not low enough to do any damage. The Cub says that all indications are for a good day tomorrow and a good night which is more to the point. The sun is beaming down on him just as it has been on you and I this day. As can be seen the Cub is fairly certain of a fine large day for he has been enjoying a trip over the country in his new Rolls-Rough.
